ABOUT

Ephemere is an event management platform born from the desire to gather, in a single tool, all the sports and cultural events that happen near you.

Project origin

Ephemere was born from a simple observation: existing platforms for discovering and organizing events imposed either an invasive commercial logic or excessive specialization to a single discipline. What was missing was a sober tool, open, capable of hosting both a taekwondo tournament and a martial arts workshop, a local concert or an amateur conference.

The project started as a tool for the French Taekwondo Federation (FFTKD), with the stated ambition to be useful to other disciplines as the platform grows. Each business-specific feature of a discipline — ranking system, reverse planning, participant management — is progressively promoted to a shared primitive, usable by all communities.

Thanks to people

Ephemere would not have come into being without the assistance, over the years, of many people who have reviewed, criticized, debugged, encouraged, hosted or inspired the project. We wish to thank, in no particular order:

Nayte, Nyow, Daehan, Ozoux, Aphro, Tod, Renegad, Luffy, Kangoo, Jien, Nightcrawler, Llosca, as well as all those whom this list unjustly forgets and who will recognize themselves.

Their perspective, their technical advice, their naive or pointed questions, their moral support have shaped the project far beyond what a single pair of eyes could have accomplished.

Thanks to technologies

Ephemere is built on a technical foundation that is entirely free or openly documented. Each of the building blocks below is the fruit of years of work by engaged communities, without which this project would be confined to a blank page.

This gratitude is more than a courtesy: it acknowledges that the quality of software depends as much on what it assembles as on what it writes itself.

Our objective

Ephemere pursues a simple objective: to become the central point through which anyone curious can discover the events happening around them, whether a sports tournament, a cultural workshop, a scientific conference or a friendly gathering.

The promise is to offer a neutral service, respectful of privacy, without advertising model, without artificial data retention, and designed from the outset to welcome new disciplines without renouncing the old ones. The Greek ephēmeros — "which lasts only one day" — reminds us that what matters is the moment of encounter, not the trace it leaves in a database.
